A concert-event dedicated to the Romanian cobza, a traditional instrument recently included in the UNESCO intangible cultural heritage, will take place on June 9, in the Hall of Honor of the Palace of Culture in Iași. The project proposes an artistic incursion into the universe of Anton Pann, through a rare, elegant and profoundly identity-defining sound formula.
Iași will host, on June 9, a special musical event built around one of the most expressive instruments of the Romanian tradition: the cobza. The concert "The Romanian Cobza and Voice, in the World of Anton Pann" brings before the audience a program inspired by the work of the famous author and folklore collector Anton Pann, one of the essential figures of Romanian culture.
The event will take place in the Hall of Honor of the Palace of Culture, a space with a strong symbolic charge, chosen precisely to enhance the heritage and artistic dimension of the project. The program is built on well-known pieces from the cycle "Spitalul amorului" (The Hospital of Love), reinterpreted in a special stage formula, with emphasis on authenticity, expressiveness and musical refinement.
🎵 The Artists on Stage
On stage will be tenor Gabriel Bîrjovanu (voice), Luiza Muscalu (cobza), Daniela Furtună (cobza) and Ciprian Oloi (keyboards), four artists united in a sound dialogue that highlights the melodic richness and rhythmic subtlety of the repertoire.

The presence of two cobzas in the same artistic formula brings additional timbral depth and creates a rarely encountered experience, capable of rendering the archaic and poetic dimension of Anton Pann's music.
The voice and keyboards naturally complement the timbre of the cobzas, in a musical construction that respects the original spirit of the creations while bringing them closer to the sensibility of the contemporary audience. The organizers also announce educational and symbolic moments, designed to introduce the audience to the historical, cultural and aesthetic context of Anton Pann's work, as well as the significance of the cobza as an identity instrument.
🎶 An Event for Everyone
Through its message, formula and content, the concert addresses a wide audience — from music lovers and fans of traditional music, to young people and educational audiences. The event naturally integrates into the series of cultural programs that highlight the Romanian heritage and its living values, in a Iași that continues to assume the role of cultural capital and space for recovering artistic memory.
