Crizantema la Iași — an evening of Romanian romances at Cercul Militar, 14 November 2026

The Romanian romance has an audience all of its own — a faithful one that knows the lyrics by heart. On 14 November 2026, from 6:00 PM, at Cercul Militar Iași, the genre is given an evening entirely to itself: Crizantema la Iași.

Laureates of Crizantema de Aur

The concert is given by laureates of the "Crizantema de Aur" National Romance Performance Competition in Târgoviște — the best-known competition dedicated to the romance in Romania, the stage through which most of the genre's important names have passed over the decades.

Representing SCANDINAVIA Music School on stage will be Ana Maria Donose (soprano, voice teacher), Ina Cristea (pianist, piano teacher) and Gabriel Bîrjovanu (tenor, founder of the school).

Why the romance matters

For anyone studying voice, the romance is a school in itself. It forgives nothing: the melody is simple and exposed, every word of the text is understood, and the audience already knows the song. There is nowhere to hide behind a vocal effect. All that remains is the line, the breath and the sincerity with which you tell the story.
